Wow!

I marked some great answers in this year's mid-course exams. Well done all!!!

But the essay that really made me go wow was by Angela Wong. She took Mary Beard's concept of "risk taking" and applied it to the Greek world, Cleisthenes and the concept of tyranny.

Great stuff Angela! Again... wow! I wish I had thought of that!

  1. I hope that 'Well done all!' applies to all --including me. I was so extremely nervous throughout that entire exam and I'm still bummed over how I realised I'd written 'Cypselus of Sicyon' instead of Corinth as soon as the exam finished. >.<;;;;

  2. Everybody that's normal gets a bit nervous in an exam. If your nerves are a big problem then you will have to develop some techniques for dealing with them. I think that breathing exercises are best.

    When we mark we look at the big picture. We look to see that you have answered the question and for those students that have answered it in a particularly good or original way. We look for evidence that backs up your argument. We look for a really good intro. and conclusion.

    What we don't do is go through to nit pick and find minor mistakes that you may have made under exam conditions. So the Cypselus slip wouldn't even register unless you were right on the border line of full marks and even then you would be given the benefit of the the doubt by most HSC markers. We know what you wanted to write and understand the pressure of exams.

    So stop worrying! lol

  3. Well, the pep talk you gave us before was absolutely true, I gave it my best shot, so bugger it, I probably did fine, and if not, then I'll just have to try harder next time. :) *pretends not to worry* 8D
