HEX Revision for these holidays

If you are stretched for time and not sure what you should be doing this is what I want you to have done by the time we get back to school for HEX:

I want you to pick 5 historians -

One from - ‘The First/Old Quest’
One from ‘The No Quest’/Interim
One from ‘The New Quest’
Two from ‘The Third Quest’

Do notes on them set out like this:

* biography,
* historical period when they are writing & effect on their writing
* what they have written about Jesus - give titles & quotes & etc...
* what gospel approach they took eg. Rudolf Bultmann & Form Criticism CDT + criticisms of the approach.

If you get this done you will be well on your way to doing a good job in the Trial HSC!

  2. I question, should we just do the contemporary scholarship or also look at ancient dudes?

  3. Hi Bek, great to hear from you!!! How is the UK? Is it good to be back? I bet it is! Don't forget to send us some pics of the big wedding.

As to your question, stick to what I said:

One from - ‘The First/Old Quest’
    One from ‘The No Quest’/Interim
    One from ‘The New Quest’
    Two from ‘The Third Quest’

    - for the Historicity of Jesus

For the Historiography question - contemporary scholarship is best!

I'm jealous Bek, those long summer UK nights. You have lots of fun now.

  4. Wait, Sir, so does that mean you wouldn't recommend us doing Herodotus/Thucydides?

    How contemporary is contemporary? LOL

  5. It all depends on the question... BUT... as a rule... yes. It is unusual for a top student response to go into detail on an ancient historian. Use them, yes, make them the core of your essay... no.

How contemporary??? ... well again that depends on the question. Lets say from Ranke to the present day. But there are a number of questions that you would do well using an Enlightenment historian to answer.

But you nearly always need to make reference to ancient & medieval historians during any answer. So there is no blanket rule.

This is what we are due to work on in Term 3. You are getting me ahead of myself Sophia!! lol

  6. Oops. LOL. Hahahahahaha. My bad. LOL.

Alright, I'll get a start on that. Don't worry sir, I'm trying to read the Warren book again to see which person I like. LOL. Now, I'll be prepared for Term 3. All is well. LOL.

Btw, on another note, did you watch Origin?! And Masterchef?! WHAT IS GOING ON?!

And thank you for that answer. LOL! I think I might go dig up those assignments we did at the beginning of the course. Though Marx and PostModernism sure get me twisted in a very big knot.

  8. Good Gaby, I'm glad that it's helpful.

I missed Master Chef because I was busy abusing my Qld friends over the net because of State of Origin. I didn't get any surprises during Origin, other than we got closer than I thought we would. So why were you so surprised by Origin & Master Chef Soph???

  9. The Blue team lost. Even though they should've totally won. You should catch up online sir! They had less people AND cooked more dishes AND had the best dessertS :( But I'm just happy that Jonathan is safe. Hooray for The Eliminator!

Oh and Origin. Well, for one, Brett Morris is really crap. And I really dislike Billy Slater so when he won the medal I was just like (@#&!)#(&@!)(#&@!#.
But yes, what a disgrace, NSW.

And DOCTOR WHO FINALE THIS WEEK! WHEEEEE! LOL

AND SIR I THINK I FINALLY UNDERSTAND THE HISTORICAL JESUS! I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW. I spent hours reading over the booklets and I went to the library to borrow some books by Mack/Vermes, etc. One thing I'm divided on now is which two aspects to do.

  10. Great news about Historical Jesus Sophia! I hate Slater too!!!

This is what I sent my Qld friends:

A Brisbane family head out to do their shopping. While in the sports store the son picks up a half-price Blues jersey and says to his sister, "I've decided to be a New South Wales supporter and I would like this for Christmas".

His sister is outraged by this and promptly whacks him round the head and says, "Go talk to mum".

Off goes the little lad with the Blues jersey in hand and finds his mother.

"Mum?" "Yes son?" "I've decided I'm going to be a New South Wales supporter and I would like this shirt for Christmas".

The mother is outraged at this, promptly whacks him around the head and says, "Go talk to your father".

Off he goes with the Blues jersey in hand and finds his father. "Dad?" "Yes son?" "I've decided I'm going to be a New South Wales supporter and I would like this jersey for Christmas".

The father is outraged and promptly whacks his son around the head and says "No son of mine is ever going to be seen in THAT!"

About half an hour later they're all back in the car and heading home.

The father turns to his son and says "Son, I hope you've learned something today?"

The son says, "Yes dad I have."

    "Good son, what is it?"

The son replies, "I've only been a New South Wales supporter for an hour and already I hate you Queensland b******s!"

no but seriously. like i don't understand the booklets

and i don't understand what we're supposed to do with all these historians that we research and what not.

like how are we supposed to talk about them in the essayyy????

i expect to not do well in the trials anyways cause i've been bludging NON STOP for the past week so could you just tell me what i need these historians for (from like herodotus to jesus historians) and like how we use them in the essay?

cause like everyone's highlighting away and understands and i'm always just there reading words.

  13. One thing at a time Da-Hee!

Just do what I said in the post. Forget about the other historians if you are that confused. Just do do the Jesus historians in the way that I have said above. We will take care of the other stuff when we get back to school. It is all you can get done properly in a week anyway.
